Kung Hey Fat Choi, Gung Ho Fat Choy,
Gong Xi Fa Cai, ...or Happy Chow Yun Fat Day!

That's Happy Chinese New Year, to you and me. There's a pretty large Chinese population in Thailand. In fact the Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra is thai born chinese.

Yesterday we saw a lot of festivities as we rode past the market near the Ping River. A group of guys under a dragon costume running in and out of each shop to bring good luck in the new year. Across the street I noticed a group of thai monks watching the events. Huddled together, their saffron robes looked like they were trying to form a similar shape, but something more like a hydra with their five heads poking out.

We didn't really do anything to celebrate, but at lunch today we did order our gyoza as "pot stickers", then again as gyoza when the waitress looked at us as if to say, "What?"

I'm happy it's Year of the Dog too. As long as no one eats me! Cool thing is that it's my mom's Chinese zodiac sign too!
